The article provides up-to-date information on the use of plastic, its chemical transformation in water bodies. Examples of plastic entering the biosphere of salt and insipid water bodies are given. Based on the analysis of literary sources, it was determined how exactly microplastics affect the health of animals and fish, in particular, humans, and examples of combating environmental pollution are also given.
