Abstract

The aim of the work was to determine the species composition of parasite fauna of internal parasites of carnivores in Odessa and to identify the most common parasitic diseases, including potentially dangerous to human health.

The results of the own researches. According to the results of parasitological studies, it was found that 28.3 % of the studied faecal samples from 198 dogs were positive. In cats, 39.0 % of the 118 samples were positive. Domestic carnivores are infected with parasites that belong to the following classes: Cestoda, Nematoda, Conoidasida and Zoomastigophora and are free of Trematoda.

In dogs, the class Cestoda is represented by two types of parasites: Taenia spp. – EI = 10.5 %, II = 2–5 specimens, Dipylidium caninum (Linnaeus, 1758) – 5.3%, 1–3 specimens. From the class Nematoda, 6 specimens of helminths were detected: Toxocara canis (Werner, 1782) – 17.5 %, 5–8 specimens, Toxascaris leonina (Linstow, 1902) – 3.5 %, 2–3 specimens, Uncinaria stenocephala (Railiet, 1854) – 5.3 %, 2–4 specimens Ancylostoma caninum (Ercolani, 1859) –14.0 %, 3–5 specimens, Trichuris vulpis (Froelich, 1789) – 12.3 %, 2–5 specimens, Capillaria plica (Rudolphi, 1819) – 5.3 %, 1–3 specimens. Class Conoidasida: Cystoisospora canis (Nemeseri, 1960) – 17.5 %, 5–8 specimens. Class Zoomastigophora: Giardia duodenalis (Stiles, 1902) – 8.8 %, 2–5 specimens.

Six species of internal parasites have been identified in domestic cats: Taenia spp. (EI = 8.7 %, II = 1–3 specimens), Toxocara cati – 37.0 %, 12–56 specimens,  Toxascaris leonina – 10.9 %, 3–10 specimens, Trichocephalus spp. – 2.2 %, 2–4 specimens, Cystoisospora felis – 34.8 %, 5–31 specimens, G. duodenalis – 6.4 %, 3–18 specimens. Pathogens Aelurostrongylus abstrusus in the studied material from cats were not detected.
